We will teach you techniques to make a Rod Puppet with a wooden head, neck and hands. The design is based on the traditional Indonesian puppet which is manipulated from below, and these puppets have a very different style of movement than the marionette. We'll show you how to construct a "pistol" style mechanism so that the neck and head move separately. We will also show how the wooden hands are connected to the shoulder, and how to connect the hand wire to the hands.About our Spring Weekend Workshop SeriesThis workshop is part of our online Weekend Workshop Series, started in Fall 2020. Puppets in Prague Weekend Workshop: Rod Puppets Mechanism (online)

Master Carver and Toy/Puppet Designer Mirek Trejtnar will go over the basic wooden mechanical devices: cranks, double crankshafts, linkage mechanisms, gears. He will show how he has built different wooden, hand-cranked automata using the different mechanisms.
